Lady Royals Sting Hornets
Down 7-0 in the first quarter of their third game in as many days, in a tournament they didn’t know they would be in less than a week ago, the Jay Lady Royals had a decision to make; give in to the circumstances or dig deep and overcome adversity. Jay chose the latter.
The Lady Royals (10-1) faced Ider High School out of Alabama on Friday in the final night of the Innisfree Hotels Tournament in Gulf Breeze. The Hornets from Ider are 9-4 on the season and were a playoff team in Alabama last year, and they came out playing like it.
Ider hit six 3’s on the night and made Jay work on the defensive end of the court.
With the game tied 19-19 at halftime, the Lady Royals exploded in the third quarter with 20 points while holding the Hornets to just 11. Seven different Royals scored in the third…seven.
Ider would go on a run in the fourth and would pull within two points midway through the quarter, but Jay never gave up the lead and would pull away for the win.
Kaylee Gilbreath lead Jay with 13 while Aubreigh Nelson added 11. Carleigh Baker scored 9.
The Lady Royals are in action again on Tuesday at LEAD Academy.
