North Santa Rosa

Mid Week Report With Coach Watson

Last week Jay lost a game on the road 42-23 to Holmes County. It was really a tale of two halves. Holmes had the Royals 42-16 at the half. But, coming out of halftime, Jay (2-2) controlled the clock and almost scored to cap off a 10 minute drive before fumbling. They would score a touchdown in the fourth quarter, winning the second half, 7-0.

Northsantarosa.com sat down with first year head football coach Brian Watson to look at last week and discuss HOCO 2022.

Q-Coach, this really was a tale of tale of two halves. What adjustments did you guys make at halftime?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          A-Well, we went back to our base defense. Simple adjustments, really. Learned some things about what were good at. Sent more pressure, blitzed more. Proud that we didn’t quit. Our boys could have, but didn’t.

Q-How has the team responded to the loss? Been a good week of practice so far?
A-We’ve had a great week of practice. Obviously we were all disappointed in last week’s result, but we’ve been focused on this week. We set multiple goals  and we are staying focused on them. Excited about homecoming.

Q-What challenges does homecoming week present?
A-Lots of distractions, but they’re all good distractions. Jay High  School does a good job of giving our students opportunities to get involved with lots of activities throughout the week. We are, though, reminding our guys that we have a job to do to make homecoming as good as it can be, and that’s to go out and win it on Friday night.

Q-Tell us about Destin High School.
A-They have a full roster. First year school. Coached by former FSU WR EG Green and they are doing a phenomenal job as a first year program. They will be a challenge.

Q-Healthy after the Holmes game?
A-A little banged up, but we’re also on track to get some guys back for Friday so we are going to be as healthy as we’ve been in a while.

Q-After the program went 1-9 last year, how big would it be for the school and the community and the team to be 3-2 midway through the season if we get a win on Friday?
A-We break our season into two halves. It would be huge to be 3-2, winning record, mid-way through the season.  Let’s then go out and win the second half of the season.

Pregame festivities begin at 6pm.

Kickoff at 7pm.
