Royal’s Running News (9/18/2018): The Boy’s and Girl’s race at Northview High School started with the sound of a horn. Northview, Flomaton, and Jay took off from the start competing in a blistering hot afternoon. The boy’s and girl’s race were led by the Royals. First place overall went to Jay High first-year runner Jonathan Ratliff with a time of 21:39 his personal best, shaving 2 full minutes off of his time from this past Saturday’s meet at the Washington Wildcat race in Pensacola. The overall second place for the boy’s race went to Chance Thornton who was only seconds behind Ratliff with a time of 21:44. Other finishers for the Jay boys’ team were Jacob Gonzalez, 4th overall with a time of 23:45, and Austin Lang 10th overall with a time of 25:56. The girl’s received a perfect score for 1st place with 15 points, led by overall 1st place finisher Jillian Thornton with a time of 23:11. The overall second place for the girl’s race went to Hannah Whitlock with a time of 23:20. Other finishers for the Jay girls’ team were Carsen Arrant 3rd place with a time of 24:48; Katelyn Harrison 4th place – 26:54, and Emma Barrow 5th place – 28:32.

The Jay Royals are looking forward to hosting the 14th Annual J.D. Mac Invitational next Saturday, September 29th at the Jay City Park. Races start at 8:00am for the girls; and 8:45am for the boys; with an Open/JV race at 9:30am. More than 13 teams are scheduled for this event. The J.D. Mac Invitational is named in honor of James McDaniel (Coach Mac) for his many years coaching high school cross-country and track. Coach Mac’s highlight years were winning four straight State Championships from 1987-1990, with numerous District wins in both sports throughout his coaching career.
