Holiday Closures

Libraries will be closed in observance of the Christmas holiday Thursday – Saturday, Dec. 24-26. They will resume normal business hours on Monday, Dec. 28.

 

Family Favorites Movie – Jay Library

Dec. 1, 5 p.m.

In this adaptation of a classic book, a young boy embarks on a magical adventure to the North Pole. During his adventure he learns about friendship, bravery, and the spirit of Christmas. This program is free and open to the public. In consideration of all participants, programs will start promptly at the assigned times. The Jay Library is located at 5259 Booker Lane in Jay.

 

Saturdays With Santa

· Jay and Pace Libraries, Saturday, Dec. 5, 10 – 11:30 a.m.

· Milton and Navarre Libraries, Saturday, Dec. 12, 10 – 11:30 a.m.

· Gulf Breeze Library, Saturday, Dec. 19, 10 – 11:30 a.m.

Santa will take a break from his preparations at the North Pole to read a Christmas story and listen to wish lists from area children. Other highlights will include festive snacks and a special gift from Santa. Please bring your camera if you would like a picture taken with Santa. All ages are welcome! Many thanks to area Friends of the Library for sponsoring this very special visit. Don’t forget to stop inside the library to see displays featuring holiday books.

 

Storytime

Storytime for 3 to 5 year olds who are able to attend without a caregiver will be held during the following times through Dec. 11:

• 11 a.m. on Mondays at the Jay Library

• 11 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Navarre Library

• 11:15 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Milton Library

• 11:15 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Gulf Breeze Library

• 11 a.m. on Fridays at the Pace Library

Heritage Tree – Gulf Breeze Library

Thanks to the generosity and creativity of our community, we have begun a new tradition at the Gulf Breeze Library. Stop by to enjoy the Heritage Tree. See how many families are represented and begin thinking about the ornament your family can create to add to the tradition next year. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze. 

 

Genealogy Research Assistance – Milton Library

Mondays 9 a.m. – noon

On Mondays from 9 a.m. – noon, library volunteers are available at the Milton Library located at 5541 Alabama St., to provide general genealogy research guidance; one-on-one assistance in using online and print genealogy resources for family researchers; and assistance in filling out ancestral charts and family group records. Beginners and seasoned researchers are invited to use these services. To ensure a volunteer is available to assist you, please call before you visit.

           

Movie Matinee – Navarre Library

Dec. 8, 2 p.m.

This month’s selection is a Christmas classic that teaches every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings. Programs are held on the second Tuesday of each month and are open to the public. There is no charge or prior registration required. Refreshments are provided by the Friends of the Navarre Library. The Navarre Library is located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre. 

 

Friends of the Gulf Breeze Library Board of Director’s Meeting – Dec. 8, 5 p.m.

Board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. at the Gulf Breeze Library. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze. Please see the Friends website at www.facebook.com/friendsofgblibrary for more information.

 

READ Dogs – Navarre Library

Dec. 9, 4 – 5:30 p.m.

Come, Sit, Stay, and Read with a furry friend in the Navarre Library on Dec. 9 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Registration is required. The program is held on the second Wednesday each month in the Navarre Library located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre. Contact the Navarre Library for more information or to sign up.

 

Friends of the Milton Library Annual Meeting – Dec. 11, noon.

The Friends of the Milton Library are hosting their annual meeting on Dec. 11. Regular board meetings are held at the Milton Library at 1 p.m. on the second Thursday of every other month. The Milton Library is located at 5541 Alabama St. in Milton. Page Turners – Gulf Breeze Library

Dec. 11, 10:30 a.m.

Join us in the Gulf Breeze Library meeting room for our fiction book club. Page Turners meets at 10:30 a.m. on the second Friday of every other month. This month’s selection is Truman Capote’s “A Christmas Memory.” There is a limit of 20 participants, so please call the library or drop by to sign up and speak to a staff member today about reserving your copy! Solutions for Your Life: Citrus Canker – Gulf Breeze Library

Dec. 18, 10 a.m.

Canker causes a citrus tree to continually decline in health and fruit production until the tree produces no fruit at all. It attacks all types of citrus and is highly contagious. Learn how it affects the panhandle. Presented by Mary Derrick, Residential Horticulture Agent/Master Gardner Coordinator, from the Santa Rosa County Extension Office. Programs are free and open to the public. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at1060 Shoreline Dr. in Gulf Breeze.

 

Classical Guitar Gathering – Navarre Library

Dec. 19, 10 a.m. – noon

Enjoy the elegant art of classical guitar with Jimmy Chandler and his students at the Navarre Library on the third Saturday of the month through December. Mr. Chandler is a local resident and classical guitar instructor with over 30 years of experience. He will host a series of gatherings to form a community for classical guitar enthusiasts, promote appreciation of the classical guitar, and provide opportunities for guitarists of all levels to meet, play, and learn. Music from all periods of history and countries will be presented and guest lecturers and performers will be included. The Navarre Library is located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

 

Hospice Hour – Navarre Library

Dec. 23, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

A series of hospice programs are held at the Navarre Library on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Shannon Snowden, R.N. and Karen Englert, both of Emerald Coast Hospice, will explain how hospice services work, what types of services including home health care are provided, and when hospice services might be beneficial. The program will be held in the Navarre Library Meeting Room, located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

 

New Year Family Movie – All Libraries

Dec. 31, 10 a.m.

Celebrate the New Year with your family at the library with a whimsical movie. Enjoy watching the New Year come to the Hundred Acre Wood while Rabbit plans a party and Pooh and his friends make resolutions. Take the first step with your resolution to read more by checking out some new books and receive a noise maker to help you ring in 2016. The Santa Rosa County Library System has libraries located in Gulf Breeze, Jay, Milton, Navarre, and Pace.

 

New Year’s Resolution Tree – Pace Library

Dec. 31 – Jan. 30

The New Year is a time to celebrate fresh beginnings and start anew. Many do so by making resolutions. Visit the Pace Library and add your resolution to the Resolution Tree. While you are there, check out the many resources that are available to assist you to keep those resolutions! The Pace Library is located at 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd.
