Jay Cross Country Teams Qualify for Regional Cross Country Championships

On Thursday afternoon the Running Royals Cross Country teams secured their spot at the Class 1A FHSAA Regional Championships. The district meet was held on the campus of Freeport High School where district runners competed for the qualifying spots in cross country’s second wave of post season.

Austin Gonzales, the only Jay High runner in the Boy’s 5K race, finished 14th overall with a time of 20:05. This was good enough for the Top 15 runners who move on to the Regional Championships in Lake City.

In the Girl’s 5K race, Hannah Whitlock led the Lady Royals with a 5th place overall finish in 23:16. Jillian Thornton was right on Whitlock’s heels finishing 6th overall in 23:25. Other Lady Royals: Grace Gillman 26:17, Laryn Kimmons 27:31, Katie Stanford 32:09, Carly Sanders 33:15, Ray Ann Free 34:22.

The Lady Royals finished in the Top 3 team standings and qualified for the regional championships to be held next Saturday in Lake City.
