Holiday Closures
All Santa Rosa County Libraries will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7 in observance of Labor Day.

Library Card Sign Up Month
September is Library Card Sign Up Month. If you don’t have a library card, now is a great time to come in and sign up. You’ll enjoy all the benefits and fun of using our wonderful library system! The Santa Rosa County Library System has libraries in Gulf Breeze, Jay, Milton, Navarre, and Pace.

Celebrate Seniors Month
Santa Rosa County’s seniors are influential, productive, and active members of our society. During the month of September the library system wants to show our appreciation for them and their positive impact on our community. Perhaps the most important and effective way to celebrate seniors is to spend time with the seniors you know and care about. Bring them to the library and share the fun! The Santa Rosa County Library System has libraries in Gulf Breeze, Jay, Milton, Navarre, and Pace.

Happy Cat Month – Gulf Breeze and Navarre Libraries
During the month of September, we encourage patrons to bring supplies for cats and kittens to the Gulf Breeze and Navarre Libraries to benefit the county animal shelter’s feline population. While all donations are gratefully accepted, the animal shelter staff have expressed a specific need for kitten food and inexpensive, non-clumping cat litter. Contact the Navarre Library or Gulf Breeze Library for additional information. The Navarre Library is located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze.

Genealogy Research Assistance – Milton Library
Mondays 9 a.m. – noon
On Mondays from 9 a.m. – noon, library volunteers are available at the Milton Library, located at 5541 Alabama St., to provide general genealogy research guidance; one-on-one assistance in using online and print genealogy resources for family researchers; and assistance in filling out ancestral charts and family group records. Beginners and seasoned researchers are invited to use these services. To ensure a volunteer is available to assist you, please call before you visit.

Heritage Holiday Tree – Gulf Breeze Library
Help us decorate the ultimate Gulf Breeze Holiday Tree. Drop off an ornament that represents your family and life in Gulf Breeze. Are you a big fan of fishing? Create a fun fish ornament. Do you play soccer? A soccer ball ornament with your family name on it would be great! Be sure to paint your name and the year on the ornament and let’s see how many Gulf Breeze folks we can get up on our tree. The last day to donate an ornament is Dec 1. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze.

Hopeful Hearts – Navarre Library
Fridays, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
A series of meetings for “Hopeful Hearts,” a bereavement support group, will be held at the Navarre Library on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The weekly sessions will address grief support and offer assistance, love and listening ears to those grieving over the loss of a loved one. All materials will be provided and no reservation is required. There is no charge to participate. The programs are held at the Navarre Library located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

Story Time @ your library®
Story time for 3 to 5 year olds who are able to attend without a caregiver will be held during the following times from Sept. 21 through Dec. 11:
• 11 a.m. on Mondays at the Jay Library
• 11 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Navarre Library
• 11:15 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Milton Library
• 11:15 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Gulf Breeze Library
• 11 a.m. on Fridays at the Pace Library

As part of Celebrate Seniors Month, enjoy a movie about the love between grandparents and grandchildren. Join us as we visit a World of Imagination where you can float down a chocolate river and see Oompa Loompas while enjoying an everlasting gobstopper. This event is free and open to the public. In consideration of all participants, programs will start promptly at the assigned times. The Jay Library is located at 5259 Booker Lane in Jay. The Navarre Library is located at 8484 James M. Movie Matinee – Navarre Library
Sept. 8, 2 p.m.
Do you think you’re having a rough day? Imagine how Mortimer Brewster is doing when on his wedding day he learns that his darling aunts are homicidal maniacs, and that insanity runs in his family. Join us for this month’s movie matinee and enjoy the hijinks! Programs are held on the second Tuesday of each month. There is no charge or prior registration required. Refreshments are provided by the Friends of the Navarre Library. The Navarre Library is located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

Friends of the Gulf Breeze Library Board of Director’s Meeting – Sept. 8, 5 p.m.
Board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. at the Gulf Breeze Library. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at 1060 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze. Please see the Friends website at www.facebook.com/friendsofgblibrary for more information.

Friends of the Pace Library Meeting – Sept. 8, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Board meetings are held at the Pace Library at 5:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every other month beginning with January. The annual meeting is held in March. READ Dogs – Navarre Library
Sept. 9, 4 – 5:30 p.m.
Come, Sit, Stay, and Read with a furry friend in the Navarre Library on Sept. 9, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Registration is required. The program is held on the second Wednesday of each month in the Navarre Library located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre. Contact the Navarre Library for more information or to sign up.

Coffee Talk Book Club – Gulf Breeze Library
Sept. 9, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
This month the book club is discussing comedians. Participants are enjoying a biography about a comedian of their choice, or a book written by a comedian. The nonfiction book club meets at the Gulf Breeze Library study room on the second Wednesday of every other month. Speak with a staff member for details. Friends of the Milton Library Board Meeting – Sept. 10, 1 p.m.
Board meetings are held at the Milton Library at 1 p.m. on the second Thursday of every other month beginning in January. The annual meeting is held in December. Local Artists and Authors – Gulf Breeze Library
Sept. 11, 12-4 p.m. & Sept 12, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Local artists and authors will be staged throughout the library, sharing their talents, signing books and discussing their works. Some of the participants will have items available for purchase. Enjoy free refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Gulf Breeze Library. We are honored to feature these local talents. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at1060 Shoreline Dr. in Gulf Breeze.

Pajama Party – Jay Library
Sept. 15, 6 p.m.
As part of Celebrate Seniors Month and to promote the value of reading, the Jay Library is hosting a pajama party. Grandchildren, bring your grandparents. Come dressed in your PJs and fuzzy slippers to join us for all the fun! Miss Debbie will read some of your favorite library books. The event is free and open to the public. Pete the Cat Party – Navarre Library
Sept. 16, 4 p.m.
In honor of Happy Cat Month, the Navarre Library is hosting a Pete the Cat party on the county school’s early release day. Wear your grooviest buttons and rocking school shoes. There will be crafts, stories, games, fun, and purrrfect kitten chow. Registration is required with a maximum of 25 participants. Contact the Navarre Library for additional information. Solutions for Your Life: Preserving and Cooking With Herbs
Gulf Breeze Library – Sept. 18, 10 a.m.
The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Services presents a monthly series on a variety of interesting topics with solutions for your life. Instead of relying on herbs and spices purchased from the grocery store, gardeners can grow, harvest, and preserve their own fresh herbs to use in their culinary delights. This month, Ginny Hinton will explain how. Programs are free and open to the public. The Gulf Breeze Library is located at1060 Shoreline Dr. in Gulf Breeze.

Classical Guitar Gatherings Series – Navarre Library
Sept. 19, 10 a.m.
Enjoy the elegant art of classical guitar with Jimmy Chandler at the Navarre Library on the third Saturday of the month through December. Mr. Chandler is a local resident and classical guitar instructor with over 30 years of experience. He will host a series of gatherings to form a community for classical guitar enthusiasts, promote appreciation of the classical guitar, and provide opportunities for guitarists of all levels to meet, play, and learn. Music from all periods of history and countries will be presented and guest lecturers and performers will be included. The Navarre Library is located at 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. in Navarre.

Be A Social Butterfly – Pace Library
Sept. 19, 10 a.m.
If you missed creating a butterfly garden last spring, want to better identify those delicate creatures floating about us, or want to learn more about butterflies in our area, come to the Pace Library to discuss these issues with Louise Biernesser, President of the Panhandle Butterfly House, and Annie Mcllhenny from All About Butterflies. In conjunction with this program, bring your children by the library during the month of September to help us decorate! The Pace Library is located at 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd. in Pace. After this event, you won’t want to miss the big Monarch Madness at the Butterfly House the weekend of Oct. 17.

Genealogy and Local History Fair – Milton Library
Oct. 9, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The Santa Rosa County Library System will host a Genealogy and Local History Fair on Friday, Oct. 9, at the Milton Library from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Over 15 local genealogical societies, historical societies, lineage societies, and other local organizations will share information and displays about their organizations and how those interested can be involved. Door prizes include books and annual subscriptions to several online websites. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Margaret Chatraw at 981-4066. The Milton Library is located at 5541 Alabama St. in Milton.
