SANTA ROSA COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT INVITES LOCAL LEADERS TO HELP BUILD COMMUNITY VISION FOR ‘STEAM’ EDUCATION AT INTERACTIVE RETREAT

Hosted in Partnership with Discovery Education, Upcoming Leadership Retreat will Convene Educators, Administrators and Community Leaders to Map Out the District’s Efforts to Build Culture of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM)-

WHAT: On Tuesday, June 30, Santa Rosa County School District and Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content for K-12 classrooms, are partnering to host a unique leadership retreat focused on STEAM, an inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning encompassing Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math. This event will engage educators, administrators, community members, and business leaders from across Santa Rosa County to develop a collective vision and strategy for creating a culture of STEAM in their school system.

During a series of interactive sessions, attendees will examine data on career opportunities in the region, experience STEAM teaching and learning, participate in hands-on STEAM activities, and begin to create the STEAM definition and vision for their school district.

Santa Rosa County School District has begun their work to create a culture of STEAM in their school system by partnering with Discovery Education on a new initiative called STEM Leader Corps. A five-year system for scaling STEM education across the district, STEM Leader Corps is a sustainable capacity building model that develops and nurtures teacher leaders and administrators as they build a culture of STEM teaching and learning in their school system.
