Baptist Hospital First in Panhandle Area to Offer Single-Site da Vinci Program for Women
Baptist Hospital is the first hospital in the Florida Panhandle to successfully implement a Women’s Single-Site da Vinci Program. Tracy Thomas-Doyle, M.D., and Erika Schneider, M.D., both of Baptist Medical Group, conducted the first hysterectomy surgeries, or “bellybutton” surgeries, using the da Vinci HD Surgical System.
The procedure requires one small access point (port) through the belly button versus a traditional larger incision and resulting scar. Through the port, the surgeon places three robotic operating arms to administer the surgery. The minimally invasive procedure helps patients experience shorter hospital stays, faster recovery times, less pain and less blood loss. “Minimally invasive techniques are really helping women experience less pain and return more quickly to a good quality of life,” shares Dr. Doyle.
