WASHINGTON RURAL ELECTRIC YOUTH TOUR 2013

Kayla Flowers of Jay High School and Taylor Brook of Northview High School along with 1,500 youth leaders representing co-ops from 41 states enjoyed a week-long tour of Washington D. C. as Youth Tour delegates. Kayla and Taylor were the winners of the EREC Youth Tour contest held annually for juniors in our service area.

Some of the highlights of the trip included seeing the World War II, Lincoln, Vietnam, Korean and FDR memorials, visiting the Arlington National Cemetery, relaxing on the Potomac River during the evening boat cruise, and visiting many other places of interest in Washington, D. C. Youth Tour delegates also had the opportunity to attend a play at the Kennedy Center.

Kayla and Taylor met with Congressman Jeff Miller and visited the Capitol where they learned more about how government works. During the Rural Electric Youth Day program, they had the opportunity to gain a better understanding of rural electric cooperatives’ history and their importance in the communities they serve.

The Youth Tour was truly an experience of a lifetime and a trip Kayla and Taylor will never forget.
