Part of Five Points construction to open

Construction on the Five Points intersection improvement project continues to move forward with the newly constructed segment of Berryhill Road opening on Tuesday, Jan. 22. The new segment realignsBerryhill Road fromAshmore Lane toChumuckla Highway, moving the intersection approximately 500 feet north. The current Berryhill/Chumuckla intersection will permanently close on Jan. 22 for construction of a retention pond and cul-de-sac. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians should anticipate minor delays as the transition is made.

 

Construction on the Five Points intersection improvement project began in July 2012. Other project features include widening of the right turn and merge lanes on bothQuintette Road andChumuckla Highway. Once complete, the project will greatly improve safety and traffic flow to the area. The project is expected to be complete in early spring.

 

The Santa Rosa County Board of Commissioners approved the project in January 2011. The project is estimated to cost $1.9 million andwill be funded 50 percent, not to exceed $1 million, by the Florida Department of Transportation for construction, engineering and inspection. The county will match the 50 percent of project costs.
