Forsythe Gets Winning Goal Against Jay

Rivals hit the Court Thursday night when Central hosted the Lady Royals.  The game came down to a free throw by senior, Brittney Forsythe.  With the game tied, Brittney was fouled to set up a one and one.   At the line, with no time left on the clock, Forsythe, shot the ball to win the game.  Brittney said, “I was praying to the Lord, it was win it, or overtime and I just wanted to win it”.  The Lady Jags won 45-44.

The game ball was presented by Holland Farms.

The Jags jumped out in front with 21-8 at the end of the front.  The Lady Jags took the lead into the locker room 29-17.   Both teams were working hard on defense and maintained the difference in the score. Central still controlled  the score 35-23 at the third. The fourth found the momentum swing and Jay came back from a 14 point deficit to tie the game.

Central Coach Kiersten Wright, had this to say about the game, “Jay is our biggest competitor, it was a great game, Brittney had a clutch opportunity and came through for the team, we teach that free throws win and lose games and tonight we won.”

Coach Rhett Rowell of Jay, “I am proud of the girls, it was a tough game, and they tried their best.”

Box scores: Brittany Forsythe 7 points,  4 steals, 4 assist, 5 rebounds; Natalie Jernigan 1 steal, 2assist; Hayleigh Gauthier 1 point, 2 steals, 3 assist; Alex Simmons 4 points, 2 steals, 2 assist; Haleigh Padgett 7 points, 12 rebounds; Makayla Simmons 26 points,  5 steals,  6 rebounds.
Jay – Carissa Mulford 17 points; Hillary Hendricks 16 points; Emily Russell 6 points; Taylor Moore 4 points; and Samantha Steadham 1 Point.
The JV teams started the night.  Jay defeated the JV Lady Jags 19-12.
Jay had the only basket of the first quarter and Central had a free throw 2-1  Jay.  The second opened with Central scoring with a 3 pointer and maintained the lead at the half 6-4.  The Lady Jags hang on to a slim lead 12-11 at the end of the 3rd.  The Royals pulled out to a commanding 19-12 finish with several fast breaks.
