Royals win Last Game of the Season
The Royals ended the season with a big win over the Robert Monroe Day School Bobcats.The Jay Defense hand an intriguing night because of some of the unusual formations run by the Bobcat offense. But thanks the the Jay offense and special teams who put big 50 on the board that was not a problem.
Early in the first quarter the Jay scored first on a 59 yard romp by Ricky Cofield. The Royals next drive stalled but a dandy punt by Dennigton had the bobcats pinned down deep on their own 4 yard line . On 3rd down a pride of Royal lions pounced and the Bobcats where tackled in the end zone for a safety. In on the tackle were: #44 Hunt ,# 42, and #61 Lowe. The Excitement didn’t stop there for the Royals fans because then #7 Hunter Dillashaw returned the ensuing kickoff back 50 yards to bring the score to 15-0.
More excitement came with 2 minutes left in the first quarter when #44 Jared Hunt recovered a Bobcat fumble and on the next play quarterback Tate Upton handed the ball to # 1 Braden Cross who ran it in from 25 yards out and the score was 22-0.
The Bobcats scored on a screen pass right at he end of the first quarter and were able to convert the 2 point conversion bringing the score to 22-8. The Bobcats tried to keep the momentum going trying an on-side kick. They were successful in recovering the kick but quickly went 3 and out and punted. The Royals, Hunter Dillashaw, then made another outstanding return, taking the punt 80 yards for a touchdown, 29-8 Jay.
The Royals keep rolling with a 28 yard run by Cofield and a 1 yard run from Braden Cross to score another Royals touchdown. Jay added the 2 point conversion making it 37-8 . With 1:40 left in the second quarter, the Bobcats scored more points on a long drive bringing it to 37-16 at the half.
In the start of 3rd quarter Jay got the ball on the bobcat 44 yard line after a punt. And then in 2 short plays scored 6 more points thanks to the superb rushing skills of Ricky Cofield.
Braden Cross had an exciting 22 run in the third bringing the ball to the bobcat 4 yard line, next Brandon Boutwell punched the ball in to score Jay’s last TD of the night. The PAT was good, 50-16 Jay.
At the close of the third quarter the Bobcats ended the scoring with a 10 yard pass. The game ended with the tally of 50-22 Jay.
