Rep. Doug Broxson Comments on Activation of Traffic Signal at Highway 98 and Green Briar Parkway

The Florida Department of Transportation will activate the traffic signal at the intersection of U.S. 98 (State Road 30) and Green Briar Parkway/County Club Road in Gulf Breeze the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 8. The signal has been in flash mode to acquaint motorists with the new changes at this location.

The new signal heads are mounted on mast arms in the horizontal position. Since the signal heads are in the horizontal position, motorists with color weakness problems will need to remember that the red indication is on the left and the green indication is on the right. Drivers are urged to use caution when approaching the intersection.

 All activities associated with this project are weather dependent and may be delayed or re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather.

“I would like to thank Secretary Prasad and the Department of Transportation (DOT) for their efforts to improve safety on Highway 98.  Following the recent tragedies, I met with Secretary Prasad and discussed solutions to protect pedestrians and motorists in the area.  Shortly after, DOT began work to install the traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 98 and Green Briar Parkway.  In many cases, the process of installing a new traffic signal can take as long as 2 years, but DOT saw the immediate need and diligently worked with Santa Rosa County officials to install this new traffic signal quickly.  Making Highway 98 safer is a continuous process, and I commend Secretary Prasad and DOT for their swift response to this serious issue.”
