Local Organizations Join Together for 3rd Annual ‘Bras Across the Bridge’

Baptist Health Care, Cox Communications, Today’s Soft Rock 94.1, Portofino Boardwalk, the Pensacola Interstate Fair, Magic 106.1, News Talk Radio WCOA on 1370 AM, and 100.7 FM are teaming up to offer the third annual “Bras Across the Bridge” on Saturday, October 20, 8 a.m. Meet us on either side of the Bob Sikes Bridge. Breast cancer survivors, their loved ones and the community are invited to join together to increase breast cancer awareness.

Beginning at 7 a.m., participants can park and register at the AppRiver complex on Gulf Breeze Parkway or at the Amphitheater on Portofino Boardwalk on Pensacola Beach. The first 500 participants will receive a pink “Bras Across the Bridge” T-shirt. Participation is $10 per person plus the donation of a new bra. At 8 a.m. the crowd will make its way across the bridge with bras strung together as a show of awareness and support for breast cancer.  The garments will be donated to local organizations that help women and girls in need. Funds raised will be donated to Baptist Health Care Foundation’s Mammogram Fund.

Also on Oct. 19 and 20, the 360 Pensacola observation wheel is offering rides for $10 a person (tax not included). Two dollars from every ticket also will go to the mammography fund. Tickets must be used on the day of purchase.

According to the National Cancer Institute, more than 225,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed this year – nearly 40,000 will die. While there is no cure for breast cancer, early detection enables early treatment and increases chances for survival.

Bras or a monetary donation can be dropped off at Today’s Soft Rock 94.1, 6085 Quintette Road in Pace, FL. Monetary donations and event registration can be made by visiting the Pink Page at SoftRock941.com. Checks can be made payable to Baptist Health Care Foundation. For more information call Jackie Linn at 850.994.5357 or e-mail jackie.linn@cumulus.com.
