North Santa Rosa

Panhandle Butterfly House Monarch Madness Festival

LET THE MADNESS BEGIN!

Panhandle Butterfly House Monarch Madness Festival

Help us welcome the monarchs to our area as they continue their marathon journey to Mexico.  The Sixth Annual Monarch Madness Butterfly Festival will be held at the Panhandle Butterfly House on October 12and 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Located at 8581 Navarre Parkway on Highway 98 in Navarre, Florida, the event will offer entertainment for the whole family.

When arriving, be sure to stop at the Welcoming Table to take advantage of a photo op with our Monarch Butterfly and ask any questions you have about our Festival.

The Panhandle Butterfly House is one of many Monarch Way Stations across the United States where butterflies in route to Mexico are tagged. This is part of a national research program, which is studying this butterfly’s incredible journey seeking answers to the mysteries of its life, including the paths and length of migration and how they navigate.  With support from the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council, children will have the opportunity to help tag the fragile creatures.

Other fun activities for children include a life cycle learning station where they can become a Junior Lepidopterist and then have the privilege of releasing a butterfly in the vivarium. There will be an opportunity to do a science experiment at the 4-H Booth, make butterfly-related crafts and also jump around in the Bouncy Castle.

The whole family will enjoy a vivarium full of butterflies and their favorite plants!  Trace the monarch’s migration route on a self-guided tour through the outside gardens.  Monarch Market will be selling butterfly related items for all ages.   Butterfly plants may be purchased at Garden Gate Nursery’s plant and merchandise booth.  Navarre Krewe of Jesters will be selling burgers and hot dogs.

Local community involvement helps to make Monarch Madness a success.  Participants/financial supporters include Garden Gate, Hampton Inn Navarre, Air Mania, Krewe of Jesters, 4-H and

Sea Grant/Marine Science.

The Panhandle Butterfly is a proud participant of the Beaches to Woodlands Tour.   On October 13 there will be dueling festivals with both Monarch Madness and the 6th Annual Navarre Fall Arts Festival sharing Navarre Park.

Admission is free but donations are encouraged and appreciated.  We depend on our visitor’s generosity to help us provide this beautiful learning environment.
