Thornton and Kemp take Top Honors at Lake Jackson
The Jay Royals Cross-Country team set a precedence at Lake Jackson Tuesday, Oct. 2nd on the fast flat course hosted by Paxton High School. It was a beautiful day at the park, and a good day for personal records. Both the boys and girls teams worked hard to place well in the meet. The Lady Royals had 5 girls in the top 10 places overall in the girl‘s race. The boys had 3 in the top 15 places. This is where the District Cross-Country meet will be held for District 1 – 1A schools on November 1st at 2:00pm. Winning the meeting in 1st place for all boy’s was Micah Kemp with a personal record of 16:45, beating his personal best the week before of 17:00 at the JD Mac Invitational. Each runner shaved between 30 seconds to over 3 minutes off of their time. Outstanding! The overall winner for the girls race was Jessica Thornton with a personal best time of 19:51, over 40 seconds faster than the week before at the JD Mac Invitational held in Jay, FL. 98% of both the boy’s and girl’s teams had personal best times, reflecting on how hard they have been working at practices to improve. This is one month before the District meet, we are trying to maintain and improve slightly so that we can peak at the correct time for Finals. We would like to thank Paxton for hosting the race, and for hosting the upcoming District meet. – Coach Teresa Hendricks
