Positive Patient Outcome Takes Baptist to the Top

Baptist Hospital, Inc. and Gulf Breeze Hospital Joint Commission Top Performers

Baptist Hospital Inc. and Gulf Breeze Hospital have been recognized for care processes linked to positive patient outcomes. The two Baptist Health Care (BHC) facilities were recognized by The Joint Commission on its recently released 2011 list of Top Performers in Key Quality Measures™. The Joint Commission’s list presents scientific evidence of hospital performance and how it relates to common medical conditions and procedures. Baptist Hospital was recognized for achieving excellence in performance on its accountability measures during 2011 for the measure sets of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. Gulf Breeze Hospital received the accolade for measure sets of pneumonia and surgical care. Baptist and Gulf Breeze hospitals are among 620 hospitals across the nation that achieved excellent scores in performance measures.

“Baptist Health Care has devoted local, internal resources to assist our clinicians in providing and measuring world class patient care, said Wanda Kaye Tillery, B.S.N., BHC vice president of quality and patient safety. “ We are proud of our ability to provide quality with the utmost degree of transparency, and have the ability to make improvements quickly and within our own community to best serve our patients.”

The report examines hospitals based on their performance related to specific accountability measures. Using such evidence-based measures can save lives and lower health care costs. The listing represents 18 percent of hospitals reporting core measure performance for 2011 and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance.

“We are honored to be named a Top Performer by The Joint Commission,” said David Wildebrandt, senior vice president of Baptist Health Care and president of Baptist Hospital, Inc. “Our culture is centered on providing world class patient care. We set very high goals for each of our facilities and being the only locally governed health care system here in this community, we are very proud to be recognized for our high level of care.”

“This recognition affirms our commitment to clinical quality, patient-centered service and operational excellence and the Mission of Baptist Health Care,” said Bob Harriman, senior vice president of Baptist Health Care and administrator of Gulf Breeze Hospital.

The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 19,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States, including more than 10,300 hospitals and home care organizations, and more than 6,500 other health care organizations that provide long-term care, behavioral health care, laboratory and ambulatory care services. An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission is the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care.

The significant achievement shows the hospitals are making an impact in helping improve patient care in our community.
