A proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution could influence how our tax dollars are spent. Amendment #8 to the Florida constitution to be voted on in November, it will make it possible for public funds(taxes) to be spent on private schools.
This could include religious schools of any denomination including Muslim, Catholic, Christian, or any other non- religious school. “We have a hard enough time with the money collected now and do not need to support systems we have no over site powers. ” said one public school educator.
Amendment 8 reads:
Proposing an amendment to the State Constitution providing that no individual or entity may be denied, on the basis of religious identity or belief, governmental benefits, funding, or other support, except as required by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, and deleting the prohibition against using revenues from the public treasury directly or indirectly in aid of any church, sect, or religious denomination or in aid of any sectarian institution.
