NAS Whiting Field Prepares for T.S. Isaac

 

Naval Air Station (NAS) Whiting Field Commanding Officer, Capt. Matthew Coughlin hasinitiated response procedures in preparation for inclement weather expected from Tropical StormIsaac.  According to the National Weather Service, if the storm continues on its projected track, the Northwestern Florida coastline and Central Gulf Coast area will be affected.  

 

NAS Whiting Field activities and tenant commands are completing all necessary preparations in anticipation of the onset of heavy sustained winds.  

 

NAS Whiting Field will close all non-essential services at the end of normal work hours for Monday, Aug. 27.  These services include the Branch Health Clinic, Navy Exchange Main Store, Gas Station, the ID card office, Pen Air Credit Union and Commissary. The Navy Exchange Mini-Mart located in Whiting Pines housing area may open during portions of the next two days depending on the severity of the storm.  Please call 850-983-4758 to verify hours of operation.  

 

All base facilities and services will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, and will reopen Thursday, Aug. 30 at a time yet to be determined based on existing hazards and safety of personnel.  Access to the base will be limited to mission essential personnel only.  Active duty personnel, contractors, government civilians and other authorized persons should contact their supervisors to determine the authorized time to return to work.

 

Training Air Wing FIVE moved the bulk of their aircraft into the three hangars on NAS Whiting Field’s North and South Fields today.  Other aircraft have been flown to other locations away from Isaac’s expected path.  These locations are primarily Millington and Symrna, Tenn.

 

Essential personnel, are to report to their duty stations and will remain in a 24-hour on base duty status throughout the duration of the storm.

 

All NAS Whiting Field personnel are asked to monitor local radio and television stations for updates concerning base status, closings and re-openings.  Information will also be posted on the NAS Whiting Field Facebook fan page at https://www.facebook.com/#!/#!/naswhitingfield.
