Wonderfully Wacky Women Run
A four-mile run/walk and a 1-mile walk are on the calendar for Oct. 27 to help raise money for groups that help people stricken with cancer.
The race is sponsored by the Redneck Riviera Chapter of Wonderfully Wacky Women, which uses a light touch to promote its serious cause. So there will be a pink fire truck, “hunky marines” and other entertainment to keep runners, walkers and spectators amused.
The event will be based at the Flora-Bama Lounge on the state line at Perdido Key; the event begins at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 27, but early registration is available at the bar Oct. 26. Entry fee is $100 and includes lunch; discounts are available to military personnel and members of families with more than one entrant.
Donations will benefit the Ovarian Cancer Unit of the American Cancer Society and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida.
The Redneck Riviera Chapter of Wonderfully Wacky Women was formed in 2009 to celebrate sisterhood and help fight ovarian cancer. In three years it already has donated over $60,000.
