Area Children “Dream Big” During 2012 Summer Reading Program

The Santa Rosa County Library System wants to thank all the children and parents who helped to make the 2012 Summer Reading Program a success by reading and attending our weekly programs. Over 1,500 children in preschool through 5th grade participated in Dream Big — READ! Participants explored all things nocturnal —dreams, stars and planets, bats, owls, spooky stories, and more—through stories, songs, games and other activities. For the first time, four family movie days were held at the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” /> Navarre and Milton libraries, with 232 attendees.

Children who participate in summer reading programs keep their brains active and enter school in the fall ready to learn and ready to succeed. In support of this, the Santa Rosa County Library System is grateful to have received several sponsors for our 2012 Summer Reading Program.

Prizes and awards are sponsored by the following community sponsors: Ridge Cinema 8, Oops Alley, Blue Wahoos, Baskin Robbins – Gulf Breeze Parkway, IMAX Theater – Naval Aviation Museum, Whataburger, and Texas Roadhouse. Thank you to the Friends of the Library at Gulf Breeze, Milton, Navarre, and Pace libraries for sponsoring performers and providing books and prizes for the program. If your business is interested in providing prizes for this program next summer, please contact Margaret Chatraw, Youth Services Coordinator at (850) 981-4066.
