Campaign Trail Heats Up Along with Violations
As the Campaign trail heats up so do the Violations. Escambia Sheriff’s Candidate John Russell Powell was arrested and booked into the Escambia County Jail earlier this week. Powell was booked on a direct file capias issued by the State Attorney’s Office following the outcome of Grand Jury proceedings earlier today. Powell was charged with accepting cash campaign contributions over $50 and was released on an ROR bond. He was arraigned Tuesday morning.
In Santa Rosa County, allegations involving Superintendent Tim Wyrosdick and a cash donation. The State Attorney’s Office is investigating the complaint of a violation state campaign-finance laws. The Treasure’s Report is on file. Wyrosdick has returned the donation, contacted the Supervisor of Election’s office, but could face charges or penalties per the results of the investigation.
