Accident on I-10 Ends in Fatality
An early morning accident ended in a fatality Tuesday, July 10, 2012. A Semi truck driven by Richard Kolis was in a single vehicle accident around 5 am just 8 miles east of Crestview. Kolis, 39, of Ceder Key, Florida was traveling westbound within the inside travel lane of Interstate-10 and entered into a northerly curve. He drifted toward the left and entered into the grass median which separates the eastbound/westbound lanes of Interstate-10. Kolis attempted to return to the westbound lanes by steering the semi toward the right, subsequently causing the truck to rotate clockwise. The semi overturned onto its left side and slid to its respectful final rest location within the grass median, while facing a westerly direction.
Passenger Daniel Salyers, 49, of Reddick, Florida was transported to North Okaloosa Medical Center and is listed in Serious Condition. Kolis died of his injuries in the accident.
