1st Annual JHS Football Camp a Success

The Jay High Royals Coach, Kent Smith, and staff hosted a youth football camp.  With 27 boys in attendance the staff along with special guest introduced the young boys to a few of the basics of football.  To begin the morning Ch. Kent Smith, brought the boys into thefield house and talked to them about some of the basics  of football.  One rule was about  Respect: Look your coach in the eye when he is talking to you.  He emphasized  how important  teamwork is to have a winning team.  The rules Coach Smith talked to the boys about work on and off the field.

The coaching staff present for  the Royals was: Brian Watson, Brian Moye, and  Jeremy Drew.  Several members of the Royals Varsity Squad were on hand to assist during the camp.  The Jay High Royals will attend a similar camp at Pace High on Monday, July 2.

As the boys went to the field they were divided up by positions and the special guests began working with them.

  • Thad Busby, a FSU Alumni, worked with the quarterbacks.  Thad started for FSU in 1996 and 1997.   At one time he held the record for the Most Passing Yards in One Season.  Today, Busby, is coaching at Seabreeze High in Daytona Beach, Fl.  There he coaches both Football and Baseball.  Busby remembers Coach Kent Smith, from his own high school days at Pace High where Kent was his coach.
  • Rush Hendricks, currently playing for the University of South Alabama, worked with the Fullbacks and Linebackers.   Rush was a 2010 graduate of Jay High.
  • Jayce Gandy, currently playing for Arkansas – Monticello, worked with the Wide Recievers and Defensive Backs .  Jayce was a 2009 graduate of Jay High.
  • Vance Smith, a Auburn University Alumni, worked with the Tight Ends and Offensive Line .  Vance is a graduate of Pace High and was on the National Championship Team at Auburn.
