Milton to Hold Memorial Day Service

Memorial Day Service Held  in Milton

 A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 28 at the Santa Rosa County Veterans Memorial Plaza located at 5131 Willing Street in Milton. The event will include a keynote address by Colonel James C. Slife, Commander of the 1st Special Operations Wing located at Hurlburt Field, a rifle salute, and a casting of the wreath on the water rite.  This year’s Memorial Day Ceremony will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and participants will play special tribute to those who so proudly served.

The Department of Defense will host the National Announcement and Proclamation Ceremony for the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War at1 p.m. EST on May 28 at the Vietnam War Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. More than 2.7 million Americans, including 7,484 women, served in the Vietnam War.  Approximately 1.5 million fought in combat or close support, with 58,202 lives lost or missing in action. Sixty-one percent of the men killed were age 21 or younger with the youngest being 15 years of age.  Santa Rosa County residents, especially Vietnam Veterans, are encouraged to attend the Memorial Day Ceremony so they and all our local Veterans can be honored.

 

In the event of severe weather, the ceremony will be held at the Milton High School Auditorium, 5445 Stewart Street in Milton.
