2012 Merle V. North Recipient – Dr. C. David Smith

At the Jay Quarterback Club Athletic Banquet Thursday, May 10, 2012 Dr. C.David Smith was named the Merle V. North recipient.

Jay High Athletic Director, Lance Youngblood, said the honor was all his to bestow this award on Dr. Smith.  He spoke a few words about why Dr. Smith was selected.  The JHS Quarterback Club wanted to honor Dr. Smith for his long and continuous support of the athletic program at Jay High.  He gives of his time, his talent, and his money to support the athletes in their endeavors.

Dr. David Smith in his acceptance speech encouraged the athletes to remember, “a champion is not a something thing, it is an all the time thing, and that is what being a Royal is all about.”  He reminded the students to think about  “what we want to do is not always what we should do “.
