VolunTeen wins Baptist Patient Experience Trophy

PENSACOLA, Fla. (April 13, 2012) – Breanna Sedig, 18, a participant in the Baptist Health Care VolunTeen program, recently was honored for her outstanding initiative and commitment to patients in Baptist Hospital’s inpatient cardiology department.

Sedig was awarded the patient experience trophy, a traveling trophy awarded monthly to an ancillary department who has supported the inpatient unit with the highest patient experience scores for the previous month. She is the first teen volunteer to be recognized with the patient experience trophy.

Team members on the cardiology unit – 4 West, where Sedig volunteers four days a week – say Sedig was the natural selection for the honor. “Patients love her,” says Shannon Boatwright, R.N., nurse manager. “She has been an asset to our team from day one.”

Sedig, an aspiring nurse and a senior at West Florida High School of Advanced Technology, says volunteering is the best thing she’s ever done. “I’ve learned that the little things mean a lot to patients. I talk to every patient, try to make sure they are comfortable and let them know that if they need anything, I am here to help.”
