I-10 ReOpened Eagle’s Nest Fire Update

Pensacola –Interstate 10 is now open for vehicular traffic between Avalon Blvd and Scenic Hwy. The fire
has been contained by the Division of Forestry, and the area will continued to be monitored for smoke on the
roadway throughout the day. Motorists are urged to use caution in the area. If motorist do encounter smoke on
the roadway they should reduce their speed, utilize their headlights and follow at safe distances.

Forest Service 7 am update: I-10 is reopened as Florida Forest Service crews worked throughout the night to knock down smoke and mop up the I-10 Eagle’s Nest Fire in Santa Rosa County.
We will continue to work on lines and ensure containment today and overnight tonight.
Four FFS brush trucks (4-wheel drive fire trucks) will be on scene today with two tractor/plow units (bulldozers).
The south fire is 90% contained at 32 acres as of 6:30 am. The north fire is 95% contained at 10 acres.

 

East and westbound lanes of I-10 between Scenic Highway and Avalon Boulevard are expected to be closed all night, Tuesday, March 6, due to smoke from a brush fire. Drivers should expect and plan for delays in their evening and morning drive times. Notice of road opening will not be sent. Last update of the night: The I-10 Eagle’s Nest Fire is 70% contained and holding at 32 acres. The spot fire north of the interstate is at 10 acres and holding.  Florida Forest Service personnel will be on the scene over night monitoring the fire and mopping up.  I-10 remains closed per the Florida Highway Patrol.

The FFS, FHP, Avalon Fire, Pace Fire, Florida Department of Transportation, Santa Rosa County Emergency Management, Northwest Florida Water Management and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission all were instrumental in fighting the fire and will be back at in full force in the morning.
