Benefit Draws Hundreds to Park
A fundraiser was held for Central High School student Gabrielle Danford at the East Milton Ballpark, today, to help pay for the astronomical costs of her heart transplant.
Local resident Jamie Peaden read about “Gabby” in the media and felt compelled to help her. Peaden’s husband is a former heart recipient and she knows first hand how expensive the process can be. She spearheaded a softball tournament, fish fry, and raffle fundraiser event to take care of some of the expenses that insurance might not handle.
Gabby was a normal, happy 15 year old who was unfortunate enough to contract a virus which attacked her heart. The virus finally did so much damage to her heart that she had to be placed on the national registry for a heart transplant. Last week the call came and she and her family went to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL, where she received her new heart. Gabby is reportedly doing very well.
We will update this story with tournament winners and proceeds raised as news comes in.
Get well soon Gabby!!! From North Santa Rosa News and Santa Rosa County.
