Family Centered Maternity Care

One Family. One Bond. One Clear Choice for Maternity Care.

PENSACOLA, Fla. (Feb. 23, 2012) – The most precious moment in anyone’s life is bringing a new life into this world. At Baptist Hospital, we believe that moment should be shared with family. From the birth of your new baby, Baptist encourages a family-centered environment by recommending mother, baby and family to share in the care.

Baptist Hospital’s new approach to childbirth focuses on nurturing the bond of a new family. At delivery, we tailor your experience to meet your specific needs, and coach you and the family through the entire birthing experience. Right after delivery, baby remains with mom and dad during those first few precious moments of life while newborn care is provided right at mom’s bedside. Both American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetricians advise that healthy mother and baby should stay together in the post-partum period.

“The benefits of keeping moms and infants together have become clinically evident and many professional maternal and child health organizations have made recommendations promoting skin-to-skin contact and rooming in after birth as opposed to routine separations of mom and baby,” said Patti Roe, clinical educator, OB/GYN Department, Baptist Hospital.

“Family-Centered Maternity Care treats childbirth as a special experience in a family’s life. We are proud to offer high-touch and highly personalized maternity care,” said David Wildebrandt, administrator, Baptist Hospital.

During the hospital stay, mom and baby will be cared for by the same personal nurse. This type of “couplet” nursing care supports and engages the entire family and facilitates enhanced education in areas such as understanding baby’s needs, feeding, sleeping, soothing, and nurturing. The family-centered maternity care approach to childbirth enables new parents to be more self-assured in their parenting skills. It also provides a supportive environment for breastfeeding.

Tracey Thomas-Doyle, M.D., OB/GYN, is excited about the new care model that Baptist Hospital has brought to this area and states, “I love that Baptist offers my parents the best approach to childbirth – focusing on what’s best for baby and family as a whole. I see more early bonding and confident patients.”

The Family-Centered Maternity Care at Baptist Hospital is here to provide the answers and support needed for a happy, healthy pregnancy by pairing modern amenities with traditional compassionate care for the entire family.
