Dianne Shell Lewis- JES Teacher of the Year and SRC Semi-Finalist

Dianne Lewis has been selected as a Semi-Finalist for the SRC Teacher of the Year.  When asked about the nomination, Dianne stated, “I was very surprised and excited to be named a semi-finalist for Teacher of the Year. I am really just a representative of all the wonderful teachers in Santa Rosa County.”

This is the first article we published when she was selected as the JES Teacher of the Year.  Please contribute your stories or photos of Ms. Lewis teaching, we will be compiling a gallery in her honor.

Dianne Shell Lewis, Jay Elementary Teacher of the Year , currently serves as the Literacy Coach.  Dianne has been with Santa Rosa County for 21 years.  She is a graduate from Jay High School, received her B.A. from the University of West Florida in Early Childhood/Elementary Education,  and her Masters Degree in Reading from the University of West Florida.

Dianne has been married 34 years to Roger Earl Lewis, she has two children: Trent Lewis of Milton, FL and Cassie Lewis of Mt. Dora, FL, one grandchild: Braden Lewis of Milton, FL; her parents are Huston and Gwen Shell of Jay, FL .

In 2010-11 Dianne was selected as the Santa Rosa County Elementary Reading Coach of the Year. She has been Chairman of the JES Reading Leadership Team for 6 years. The Team has won the  2009 Santa Rosa Elementary Team of the Year and 2010 Elementary Team finalist for the state of Florida.

Dianne stated that the reason she started teaching was because, “ I love children and watching them be successful.” Dianne continues with her goals,  ” I want to continue my career in education and I  want to be a part of making JES and Santa Rosa school district the best it can be! I see education as a team effort and one that can not be accomplished in isolation. Coaching allows me to share my knowledge with more teachers and children than before.”
