Christmas Eve Gift
Many in the south have heard the expression, “Christmas Eve Gift”. Some want to be the first to say it and receive a gift from the recipient.
“Christmas Eve Gift” can be traced back as far as 1844 in the southern regions of the United States. It comes from the tradition of saying “Christmas Gift!” among typically farming families in rural areas, when people would wake on Christmas morning and rush to say “Christmas Gift” before anyone else. Today it is a simple greeting and reminder of the birth of Christ as a gift.
