Upcoming Star – Jesse Jernigan
Meet one of the area’s Upcoming Stars:
Jesse Jernigan, a 9th grader at Central School is on the Golf team. Jesse is the son of John and Sheri Weekley Jernigan. He has one brother, Josh. Jesse is the grandson of Sharon Rice.
Jesse started playing golf at the age of 9. He was playing around with his uncle’s old wooden clubs and was hitting the ball pretty straight. Dad, John, encouraged Jesse to continue playing. Jesse likes that golf is an individual sport, so most of the time he can’t rely on a team, only himself. His greatest achievement was qualifying for our regional tournament this year in high school as an individual. “I love just being able to play the game of golf…..all the rewards come as a bonus!”, says Jesse.
Jesse spends the off season playing basketball and weight training at Central. He is on a golf team for GPJGA/First Tee in Pensacola and the Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour in Destin. He also plays JV basketball for Central School.
The best and lowest score of Jesse’s career is 75. During this golf season Jesse won “Low Medalist” three times.
Congratulations to Jesse on a tremendous season and we hope the start of a great career.
