Chumuckla Redneck Christmas Parade
The 16th Annual Chumuckla Redneck Christmas Parade was a tremendous success. All proceeds from the parade go to local charities. The Chumuckla Athletic Association (CAA) uses some of the funds to provide for Christmas for needy children in the area. The group calls this -Rednecks Caring for Christmas. This year, a local resident and volunteer fire fighter donated about 2 dozen bikes. The CAA elves walked with Santa before the parade and collected gifts and donations.
Funds are also allocated for the upkeep and utilities bills to keep the Chumuckla Community Center running. The center provides not only for the young but also is a key part of the help given to the older generation in the community.
The parade started with 5 regular guys wanting to have fun at Christmas and they decided to have their own version of a Christmas Parade -Redneck. Now the parade draws crowds that rival the attendance of the Blue Angels show. An estimated 10,000 attended the parade.
There were over 100 floats in the parade. Many local business and families joined in the fun. Many of the parade watchers set up their tailgating parties by 8 am.
