Chumuckla Elementary –Teacher of the Year – Allison Daseler
Mrs. Daseler is a Kindergarten teacher at Chumuckla Elementary has been selected to represent the school as the Teacher of the Year. Allison has been teaching for five years and all of them have been in Santa Rosa County. She has been married to Capt. Tim Daseler, (US Navy) for 25 years. They have 2 children: Benjamin, 20 (Project Search Intern @ Gulf Breeze Baptist Hospital), and Maggie, 17 (Senior @ Pace High School).
In her own words Allison describes why she became a teacher, “Although there were many educators in my family, I wanted to pursue a career in business. I received a degree in Management/Marketing, and negotiated claims for State Farm Insurance. I married a Navy submariner, and traveled to various duty stations with him. But when my son, Ben, was born with Down Syndrome, life changed for me. Suddenly, I had teachers coming to my home, instructing me how to feed, move, and love this floppy little baby. My initial goal was to work with Ben so that he would be ready one day for mainstream Kindergarten. Not only did he thrive in a regular Kindergarten classroom, the next year he was also voted “Student of the Year” by the First Grade Teachers. It was then that I realized my role, as Mom, was more. I was his teacher as well. Furthermore, I discovered a passion for teaching that I didn’t know I had. I wanted to be a public education teacher; one who could teach the least advantaged students and help them achieve their dreams and goals.”
Her goals: “As a Kindergarten teacher, my goal is to manage 17 students and promote life-long learning. I look for potential and build on it. I have high expectations for my students, and try to use time wisely to maximize student gains. But most importantly, I try very hard to keep the joy in learning!
As a Mosaic Laboratory Classroom Teacher, I have had the distinct privilege of welcoming my fellow Kindergarten teachers into my classroom to observe my 90-minute reading block. It is my hope that teachers leave my classroom with a better understanding of how to implement many of the new teaching strategies, assessments, and technology that we are now required to use. These teachers are the finest in the state, and I want to encourage them to continue in their pursuit of excellence! “
Some of Allison’s accomplishments in the classroom are:
