McGee Graduates Boot Camp

2010 Jay High School graduate Brian McGee completed Army Boot Camp last Thursday, Dec. 1, in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. His parents Mark and Susan McGee of Jay, along with his parents Christy and David Hobbs, of Denham Springs, LA all made the trip to participate in the 2 day event wrapping up the boot camp.
Parents were allowed to lay eyes on their soldiers, following a very long 10 week boot camp at the start of family visitation day, Nov. 30. The families were briefed on the strict rules of the soldiers still technically in boot camp and the soldiers were allowed to leave with families in their full military dress uniforms. During this briefing, McGee was brought on stage, along with 7 other soldiers, and was promoted based on his performance and leadership during boot camp. McGee had served as squad leader during his training and was recommended for promotion by his drill sergeant. He was promoted to PV2 and received bars on his dress collar and a stripe on his jacket. His Dad, Mark McGee, was allowed to pin the bars on his collar.
A warrior Banquet was held that night and the soldiers were allowed to dine with their families. Battalion Company Commander CPT Xavier A Laredo, along with Battalion Commander LTC Timothy J. Atkins spoke to the crowd.
The graduation took place the next morning at 9 am and the families watched as their soldiers marched with their drill sergeants and yelled out their names and the state they were from. It was a moving ceremony and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
Thanks go out to the United States Army and to Charlie Company 1st Battalion, 48th Infantry Regiment for their hospitality.
Congratulations PV2 Alexander Brian McGee!!!
