S.S Dixon Primary PTO won the Parent Involvement Award for the 2010-2011 school year from the Florida Department of Education and the Florida PTA. Tanya Westerkom, former SSDP PTO president, said the idea for the hay maze and festival came from a similar event in Texas. “Haystackular will be a fun fall event for families in our area, and it will raise much-needed funds for our school to help make ends meet in tough budgetary times,” Westerkom explained. “In addition, we are pleased to partner with the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Central and Northern Florida to help children facing life-threatening medical conditions.” She added, “We hope this will become a fall tradition for the entire community, and we are grateful for our many sponsors and supporters.”
The S.S. Dixon Primary School Parent-Teacher Organization (SSDP PTO) will present the Second Annual Haystackular hay bale maze and fall festival from September 30- October 29 at the school’s field on Highway 90 in Pace. Along with what is presumed to be the largest hay maze ever built in northwest Florida, Haystackular will include hay rides, games, a zip line, a corn trough to play in, free movie Fridays, special events and contests each weekend, and refreshments for the entire family.
