Jumpstart and Chumuckla Elementary- – Read for the Record

JUMPSTART AND CHUMUCKLA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

<Santa Rosa County>

TO HELP BREAK WORLD READING RECORD

6th Annual Jumpstart’s Read for the Record to focus attention on the crisis in early childhood education

WHAT:      Research shows that 1-in-3 American children enter kindergarten behind, and most will never catch up. The reality is that if children start school behind, they stay behind.

On October 6, 2011, millions of people across the country will sit down to read the same book, Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney, on the same day, as part of Jumpstart’s Read for the Record®, www.readfortherecord.org, presented in partnership with the Pearson Foundation – setting a world record and spreading the word that all children should receive the quality early education they deserve.

[Chumuckla Elementary School] will join the ranks of celebrities like Bridget Moynahan – the 2011 Ambassador for Jumpstart’s Read for the Record, Bill Cosby, Justin Beiber, Vince Vaughn, elected officials, parents, teachers, children and volunteers all across the country who have supported Jumpstart’s Read for the Record.

WHY:        Millions of children in low-income neighborhoods start kindergarten already 60% behind their wealthier peers, and research shows that most will never catch up. Jumpstart works to ensure that all children, regardless of socio-economic status, enter kindergarten prepared for success.

Participating in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is an easy way that anyone anywhere can support Jumpstart’s work with children in low-income neighborhoods. When you sit down to read, you’ll be standing up for children everywhere.
