Destin Bank Robbery Suspect in Custody
OCSO Bank Robbery Suspect in Custody
A Destin man is now in custody, approximately nineteen hours after he
walked into a Destin bank, showed the teller a handgun tucked in his
waistband, and passed her a note demanding money. 21-year old Gavin
Mitchell Forrest was located Thursday (today) just after noon in the parking
lot of the Olive Garden Restaurant on Miracle Strip Parkway in Fort Walton
Beach.
He was taken into custody without incident. Okaloosa County Sheriff’s
Office deputies and investigators were assisted by the U-S Marshals Service
Task Force and Fort Walton Beach Police Department. Cash was recovered
from Forrest, but at this time it is unknown if the money he was carrying had
been taken during the armed robbery.
Forrest was captured on video surveillance around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday
as he entered the Hancock Bank on Emerald Coast Parkway. He left on foot.
An intense search of the surrounding area was conducted by the OCSO
and a K-9 unit. Forrest, whose last known address is 48 Court Drive in
Destin, was soon developed as a suspect.
He will be charged by the OCSO with armed robbery of a bank and grand
theft.
