North Santa Rosa

Learn more about the journey of the monarch butterfly

Come celebrate the monarch butterflies’ incredible journey with a visit to the Panhandle Butterfly House.  The award winning “Kiderpillar” program will be offering scheduled tours for groups of 10 or more in conjunction with the 5 th Annual Monarch Madness Butterfly Festival. The tours will be available October 3, 4, 5, and 6 and the week of October 10-14. The timing of the festival and tours is concurrent with the monarchs’ appearance in our area while traveling south to Mexico.

Please schedule a tour through our website at: http://panhandlebutterflyhouse.org/ or call the Santa Rosa County Extension Office at 850-623-3868.

Most tours have the benefit of three separate lessons covering the life cycle and habits of butterflies, the journey of the monarch, and the ecosystem of the estuary and a freshwater pond.

“Last year we hosted over 500 school children and we look forward to an equal or greater number this year.  It is always fun to see the wonder on children’s faces as they watch the butterflies.” said Kiderpillar Chairperson, Mary Peterzen.

A combined group of UF/IFAS Santa Rosa County Extension Master Gardeners and community volunteers teach the program.  We are proud to say that our curriculum meets the Sunshine State Standards for Florida.
