Petty Officer 2nd Class Spehar, 24, was a native of Saint Paul, Minnesota. He enlisted in the United States Navy in March, 2007.
After graduating from Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes, Illinois in June, 2007, he reported to Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training, at Coronado, California. He completed Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training in February, 2008 and reported to Naval Special Warfare Advanced Training Command at Coronado, California. He then transferred to the Naval Special Warfare Training Center Detachment at Kodiak, Alaska. He returned to Naval Special Warfare Advanced Training Command in Coronado, California in May, 2008. On September 2008, he reported to a West Coast based SEAL Team.
Petty Officer Spehar’s awards include Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Rifle Marksmanship Medal, and Pistol Marksmanship Medal.
