Extension Offices Host Managing Hog and Deer Damage Program

 Santa Rosa and Escambia County UF/IFAS Extension are hosting a free seminar on Managing Hog and Deer Damage on Friday, Mar. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Walnut Hill Community Center located at 7850 Hwy. 97.

Feral hog and deer populations can cause damage to agricultural crops, forest plantings, food plots and native wildlife habitat.   Agricultural producers, foresters, private landowners, and natural resource professionals are invited to this technical training on managing wildlife damage.  

 The program will include:

• Wild Hog History, Biology and Ecology by Arlo Kane, Regional Coordinator, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
• Managing Deer Numbers to Mitigate Crop Loss by Joel Martin, Auburn University , Director of Solon Dixon Forestry Center
• Laws Governing Removal of Animals by FWC Law Enforcement
• Hog Trapping: Things to Consider by Mark Hainds, Research Coordinator, Longleaf Alliance
• Hogs: Role of the Sport Hunter, Identification of Hog Signs and Night Hunting by Mark Hainds, Research Coordinator, Longleaf Alliance
• Coyote Considerations for the Hunter and Farmer by Andrew Lee, FWC Game Biologist
