Lady Royals Win District!
For the third time in as many years, the Jay Lady Royals are district champions! Jay (19-3) defeated Paxton (19-4) also for the third time this season, 61-46.
“I am so proud of these girls,” head coach Jorey Diamond stated after the game. “They kept their poise against a very good Paxton team.”
Jay jumped out to a nice first quarter lead, scoring 19 in the opening period. The Lady Royals played a smothering style of defense all night long, forcing Paxton to settle for low percentage shots for most of the night.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Bobcats had no answer for Sophomore Aubreigh Nelson, who scored 20 points and recorded five rebounds.
“Aubreigh had a great game for us. She really picked us up when we got in a little foul trouble and a little banged up. Proud of this whole group.”
Nelson’s 20 points included 12 from the free throw line (12/14). Adyson Adams added 11 while Presley Hawthorne scored 10.
The playoff bracket will be announced on Sunday but it is all but certain Jay will be hosting the first round on Thursday at 7pm.
