Hoops Update…Royals off to a good start

The Lady Royals are off to a fast 3-0 start. On Monday, Jay defeated Poplar Springs, 58-17, before going on the road on Tuesday to defeat Paxton, 61-48. The visiting Royals outscored Paxton every quarter. Sophomore Hattie Locklin dominated all night, recording a double-double, recording 19 points, 18 rebounds and added 5 blocks.

“Hattie Completely set the tone all night with her play,” head coach Jorey Diamond stated. “It was truly a dominant performance in the paint. She allowed us to control the game.”

Adyson Adams too had a good night, scoring 11 points and racking up 4 assists as the Lady Royals scoring was spread across the team. Aubreigh Nelson scored 15 while Kaylee Gilbreath added 13. Sophomore Presley Hawthorne added 7 assists to the team-effort win.

Kenna Cook for the Bobcats scored 16. Kinzie Lassiter added 14.

Jay hosts Ponce de Leon on Friday in a huge early season matchup.

The Jay men are 1-0 after overcoming a slow start, defeating Paxton 58-56 in overtime.
