Grime Time!
Friday-The Jay Lady Royals (18-4) finished off their regular season on Friday as they hosted PCA (12-8) and got a huge 69-26 win. The game was never in doubt and the fans in attendance were treated to a special night as Jay’s only senior, Madilyn Grimes, was honored before the game. “Maddie” has been with the Lady Royals for two years now and has been a pivotal player in the Lady Royals lineup.
“Maddie is always in a good mood and she practices so hard,” head coach Jorey Diamond said of his lone senior. “She has a great attitude and is a huge part of this team.”
Jay jumped out to a quick 17-7 lead, thanks in part to Grimes, who had four points in the opening quarter. Junior Carleigh Baker had seven, including a three pointer in the quarter.
PCA would have even more troubles in the second quarter, scoring only five and giving up another 17 to Jay as the Lady Royals would take a 34-12 lead into halftime.
It was clear that Jay wanted to get the ball in the paint after halftime and they took advantage of free throw opportunities, connecting on 10/12 from the line.
The fourth quarter of the game truly became “Grime Time” as the senior scored seven points, including a three point shot from the corner, directly in front of the JHS student section.
“This was a great night for our team,” Diamond stated after the game. “Our focus now is the next game, which starts district tournament play. One game at a time.”
Jay will host a semi-final game on Wednesday against the winner of Freeport and Laurel Hill.
Darcy Locklin led the Royals with 12 points.
