Lady Royals win 3rd straight

Tuesday-The Jay Lady Royals defeated the Navarre Raiders (5-15), 57-34 to win their third straight and to improve to 16-3 on the year. Back in late November, Jay defeated Navarre 57-54 in a much more competitive game. Tuesday, there was no denying the improvements the Lady Royals have made throughout the season.

After keeping things close in the first quarter, the Raiders trailed 15-9 going into the second quarter. That is when things got a little tougher for Navarre. Jay held Navarre to only three points in the entire second quarter. Conversely, Jay scored 21, connecting on four 3’s. Presley Hawthorne hit two while Caylee Gilbreath and Darcy Locklin both added one a piece.

Jay led Navarre 36-12 at halftime of Navarre’s senior night.

The Lady Royals didn’t come out in the second half looking quite as sharp as turnovers kept Jay from adding to their lead. Navarre would actually win the third quarter 14-9 and cut the lead at one point to 20, but that was as close they would get as Jay finished with 12 points in the final quarter of play.

Aubreigh Nelson had a huge night for Jay, scoring 22. Calyee Gilbreath had 9, while Presley Hawthorne had 8.
