Lady Royals end two game skid

Friday-The Jay Lady Royals (14-3) hosted district foe Freeport (10-9) and got a much needed win, 68-48. After losing to Central and Pace, Jay came ready to play, especially on the defensive end of the floor.
Communication is key, defensively, and the Lady Royals were clicking and communicating at a high level all night. In fact, all but seven of Freeport’s 48 points came from only two players.

Offensively, freshman Hattie Locklin recorded a double-double for Jay with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Aubreigh Nelson also had a double-double for the Royals. She had 10 rebounds and scored 18, 14 of which came in the first half.
Despite the twenty point victory, the Lady Royals didn’t cruise to victory, at least not right away. The Bulldogs were within ten at halftime, trailing 31-22. But the Lady Royals
exploded in the third quarter with 24 points, while holding Freeport to just 13. Sophomore Kaylee Gilbreath was responsible for 11 of those 24 for Jay in the third.

“Best team game we played all year,” Diamond stated after the win. “I saw real improvements.”

The Lady Royals have a busy upcoming week of road games; Baker on Monday, Navarre on Tuesday and Central on Friday.
