Undefeated Lady Royals beat Gators
Monday-The 7-0 Jay Lady Royals hosted rival Baker(3-4) and got a 65-43 win. In a game that was never really in question, Jay controlled both ends of floor. Defensively, Jay held Baker to only three points in the first quarter. Freshmen Hattie Locklin led the way for Jay in the first quarter with six points.
Baker would answer back in the second quarter, hitting three 3’s, but still got outscored 16-9, thanks in part to a four point play near the buzzer as Kaylee Gilbreath got fouled on a made three point shot.
Leading 30-12 at halftime, Baker would take advantage of a scoring drought for Jay that lasted over three minutes, cutting into the lead, but by the time the third quarter ended, Jay had matched Baker and held the 18 point lead going into the fourth.
Baker’s fourth quarter scoring matched their 2nd and 3rd quarters combined; the problem for the Gators was Jay nearly matched their own as well. 44 total points were scored in a wild fourth quarter that included seven 3’s by both teams. Baker’s Mcgraw would connect on three while Jay’s Presley Hawthorne connect on two.
Up next for Jay is a road trip to Northview (1-5).
