Lady Royals tame Tigers
Tuesday-The Jay Lady Royals improved to 2-0 on the year, winning their second game on the road by defeating, Chipley 42-27. In a turnover ridden game, the Lady Royals fought and clawed to win and pull away late. Holding on to a slim 18-14 lead at halftime, including a long distance three pointer nearly at the buzzer to end the second quarter by Presley Hawthorne, Jay came out strong to start the third quarter and widen the gap between them and Chipley. But, just as it seemed that the Lady Royals might pull away, turnovers hampered Jay from taking control of the game.
“We just needed to relax. Once they did that, we played much better,” head coach Jorey Diamond said after the game.
Hattie Locklin led the way for the Royals in the third quarter, scoring 7 of the team’s 10 points.
Defensively, the Lady Royals continued to play well, pressuring the Tigers and forcing turnover after turnover. Chipley would only score 2 points in the fourth quarter to Jay’s 14.
Up next for Jay is a home game versus Navarre on Thursday night.
