Terrell Wayne Godwin
Terrell Wayne Godwin, of Jay, Florida, passed away on June 13, 2023, at the age of eighty-seven. He was born in Chumuckla, Florida, on February 23, 1936, on the Old Spanish Trail. He grew up in Jay after his family moved from Alabama to farm. He graduated from Jay High School and married Peggy Scott in 1953. They raised four children on a traditional family farm that included peanuts and cotton, beef cattle, and growing and putting up summer vegetables. They were both active in their church and community. Wayne had recently returned to his childhood home on Hazel Godwin Road in Brownsdale.
Wayne is survived by one son, Bruce (Debbie) Godwin of Jay, Florida; three daughters: Stephanie (John) Solomon of Walnut Hill, Florida; Suzette Dawn Godwin of Jay; and Sandra Elizabeth Godwin of Milledgeville, Georgia; and one sister, Brenda Carole Godwin of Jay. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The grandchildren are Brandon (Tasha) Godwin, Aaron Oree Godwin, Jacob (Erin) Godwin, Makenna (Justin) Hudson, Ashton (Thomas) Ashworth, JP (Dera) Solomon, Levi (Alyssa) Solomon, and Donna (Stephen) Smith. The great-grandchildren are Brady Godwin, Darby Godwin, Palmer Godwin, Kayleigh Godwin, Maggie Hudson, Lily Rae Ashworth, Henry Jackson Ashworth, and Charlie Wayne Ashworth.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Irene Jackson; his father, Clifford Oree Godwin; his wife, Peggy Scott Godwin and two brothers, Brendon Earl Godwin and Tharon Douglas Godwin. He is also preceded in death by granddaughter Mattie Elizabeth Solomon.
Pallbearers are Brandon Godwin, Aaron Godwin, Jacob Godwin, JP Solomon, Levi Solomon, Makenna Hudson, Ashton Ashworth, Justin Hudson, and Thomas Ashworth. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne’s “Fish Fry Crew.”
The visitation will be held at Jay Funeral Chapel, 3853 Hwy 4, Jay, Florida, on Friday, June 16, 2023, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held at Jay Church of Christ, 4034 Hwy 4, Jay, Florida, on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 5:00pm. Burial will follow at The Jay City Cemetery
